PULWAMA: The two Hizb militants killed in Shar Shali area of Khrew Pampore were laid to rest on Thursday afternoon at their respective villages. Thousands of people participated in their funeral prayers and raised pro-freedom, pro-Pakistan and anti-India slogans, witnesses said.
The bodies of Adnan Ahmad Lone of Braw Bandina, Awantipora, and Adil Bilal Bhat of Malangpora, Pulwama, were handed over to their family on Thursday morning, a police officer said.
Eyewitnesses told Kashmir Reader that thousands of people from different villages including Braw Bandina, Chakoora, Gulzarpora, Dogripora, Reshipora, Padgampora, Charsoo, Awantipora, Sangam, Pulwama and other adjoining villages reached the native villages of the slain militants to participate in their funeral prayers.
At least four rounds of funeral prayers were offered for both the slain militants at Brah Bandina and Padgampora, witnesses said. The bodies of both were wrapped in the Pakistan flag, witnesses said, and they were laid to rest amid sobs and tears of the mourners.
Sources said that Adnan was a B-Tech student before he joined militant ranks. Adil’s father works in the police, sources said.
Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in Pulwama district to protest the killing of the militants. Locals told Kashmir Reader that a complete shutdown was observed in Pampore, Shar Shali, Khrew, Awantipora, Tral and Pulwama towns.
All shops and business establishments stayed closed in Pulwama district while public transport was mostly off the roads.
Authorities snapped internet services in Awantipora police district and Pulwama district during the night, soon after government forces launched a search operation in Shar Shali area.
Clashes were also witnessed between mourners and troops during the funeral proceedings.
