LAWDA demolishes 10 ‘illegal’ structures

SRINAGAR: The enforcement wing of Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) on Wednesday demolished ten illegal structures around Dal Lake here.

An official statement said that a massive demolition operation was carried out through the enforcement wing of LAWDA and ten illegal structures were demolishes in the areas of Friends Colony, Teilbal, Dangerpora and Dhobi Mohalla Shalimar.

It said four second storey structures and one single storey structure were demolished which were raised illegally by some miscreants.

Also in the area of Panditpora, Rangparistan, Nowpora, Duwlatabad and WFR in which one 3rd storey, 2 shops, one room structure and tin walling were demolished, the statement said.

One demolition squad member Khursheed Ahmad Lone got injured during the drive, it said.

LAWDA intends to carry out series of demolition drives in the coming days. Enforcement Officers of LAWDA appealed people to demolish illegal structures on their own to save this prestigious water body.

“The demolition drive will continue to remove all the illegal structures in non permissible areas in the catchment area of Dal Lake,” the statement said.

Further, all the public residing within the LDA jurisdiction are hereby directed that not to go for any sort of illegal constructions/encroachments, it added.
