Baramulla: Police have arrested ten persons including a newly elected sarpanch and a numberdar of village Nambla in Uri in connection with poll day clashes at an election counting centre earlier this month.
Police said that newly elected sarpanch Shahid-ul-Islam and Nambardar Riyaz Ahmad of Nambla-B Uri have been arrested along with other persons under an FIR registered on November 17.
They were arrested on Monday evening.
Officials said the investigation in the matter is still going on.
Clashes had broken out in counting centre of Panchayat elections at Government Higher Secondary School Nambla on poll day, leading to cancellation of polls by the election authority.
The polls were later conducted on November 22, in which Shahid emerged as the winning sarpanch candidate.
