Srinagar: The department of Health and Medical Education (H&ME) is investigating a complaint regarding an employee said to be working as a television journalist.

The Director Finance of the department has sought a ‘factual report’ about the pharmacist Aijaz Ahmad Khan alias Sanam Aijaz, “presently posted with the Chief Medical Office (CMO) Srinagar”.

“The department is in receipt of a complaint wherein it has been mentioned that one pharmacist namely Aijaz Ahmad Khan alias Sanam Aijaz, presently posted with Chief Medical Office Srinagar is also working for a TV channel Gulistaan news,” reads a letter from Director Finance, H&ME to Director, Health Services Kashmir.

“Further it had also been stated that the said pharmacist has also pursued his Masters degree in Mass Communication and Journalism & has drawn salary for the said period.”

The letter asks Director Health Services Kashmir to “furnish the factual reports in this regard”.

Director Health Services, Dr Kunzes Dolma told Kashmir Reader that she had forwarded the order to Chief Medical Officer Srinagar for a detailed report

“Once we will receive the detailed report we will form a committee to inquire about this issue,” she said.

Despite several attempts, Aijaz did not respond to calls made from this reporter.

Violating service rules, several government employees are moonlighting as journalists in the Valley. But the government has been quite lax in acting against those employees despite several media reports highlighting the issue.
