SRINAGAR: Under the banner of joint resistance leadership (JRL), the leaders and activists of resistance camp and Awami Action Committee along with people assembled outside the historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar and held candlelight protest against the ongoing killing spree in Kashmir. The protest was led by Hurriyat leader and AAC youth president Sufi Mushtaq Ahmad.
A statement issued by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq-led Hurriyat Conference here said the protesters carried placards and appealed the international community to break silence over the “atrocities” being committed on the people of Kashmir.
They paid tributes to those killed and prayed for speedy recovery of the injured.
The protesters said forces were selectively killing Kashmir’s young boys at will due to the unbridled powers enjoyed by them under the draconian law Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA). “Time and venue for the bloodbath is also selected by the forces themselves as they know that no one is going to make them accountable,” they said.
“Indian forces are subjecting Kashmir’s younger generation to the worst genocide,” they said, adding, “Killing of over 400 people in just 11 months by the government forces is an act of war crime.”
