BARAMULLA: A BJP leader in north Kashmir who lost in the ongoing Panchayat elections has alleged that his opponent won after PDP’s backing.
Desh Kumar Nehru alias D K Nehru, who is BJP’s district president Baramulla, lost to Kulveer Singh of Rafiabad’s Rohama block in the elections held on Saturday for Panzla Panchayat halqa.
Sources said that D K Nehru got 153 votes while as Kulveer Singh secured 353 votes. Another candidate Shabir Mir received only 13 votes. Singh was elected as Sarpanch for Panzla Panchayat halqa.
Nehru had in past contested against PDP’s Yawar Mir in the assembly elections, and lost.
Talking to Kashmir Reader, Nehru said he was leading in Panzla village but “PDP supporters stole my votes in Takya Mohalla, and won the seat”.
“My opponent candidate was backed by PDP, and its workers stole my votes,” he said. “No matter I lost the elections but I will always serve my people, and will not allow anyone to become hindrance in the path of my village’s development.”
“My wife is already a Panchayat member of this halqa and we will develop this village and the adjacent areas with whatever way possible,” Nehru asserted.
