SRINAGAR: J&K High Court Bar Association on Sunday condemned the killing of a youth in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday.
The slain youth Nauman Ashraf Bhat son of Mohammad Ashraf Bhat of Boulso Kulgam was killed during clashes between civilians and government forces near gunfight site at Batagund village on Sunday.
A Bar spokesperson in a statement issued here said the killing of 10th class student Nooman and injuring of twenty civilians, including a twenty month old child and setting ablaze of six bikes of the locals, who had gone to the Police Lines Shopian, to collect the bodies of 6 slain militants, termed the same as a “worst kind of human rights violation”.
“We appeal the civilized members of the international community to wake up from the deep slumber and play their role in stopping the forces from committing the genocide of the people of Kashmir,” the spokesperson said.
He said the only fault of Kashmiris is that they ask India to concede to their right of self-determination which is guaranteed to them by the 28 Security Council Resolutions and the promises, pledges and utterances made by the Indian leadership both inside and outside the Indian Parliament, which have remained unfulfilled for the last 70 years.
“By killing innocent people of Kashmir, by use of bullets and pellets, the Indian government will not succeed in silencing the people forever and that it will have to settle the issue of Kashmir in accordance with the aspirations of the people of Kashmir,” the spokesperson said.
The Bar Association while supporting the call given by JRL for Monday, has also decided to request its members to abstain from court work in protest against the killing of innocent people of Kashmir and also to show solidarity with the families whose kith and kin have been killed or injured.
