SHOPIAN: A video showing slain policeman (SPO), Basharat Ahmad Wagay, confessing to tipping off government forces about militants, has surfaced on social media a day after his killing.
Basharat, whose father Ghulam Muhammad Wagay, is also a policeman, a resident of Reban village of Shopian, is confessing in the video about tipping off forces about the presence of militants in his village.
Basharat is the third person to be killed by suspected militants after abducting him in the district in recent weeks.
He was abducted besides two other civilians, who were later released on Friday.
Villagers told Kashmir Reader that two civilians were safely released, however Basharat was killed by gunmen and his body was recovered by police from Niklora village of Pulwama. This is the second body to be recovered from Niklora village in such circumstances.
Villagers said a gunfight took place in the village on 17 November in which two militants belonging to Al Badar outfit were killed in a nocturnal operation by the forces.
“I followed them (militants) to the house where they were believed to take shelter. It was 8:30 and I told forces to crackdown the village,” Basharat can be heard saying in the video.
“I have a child at home and I want to apologise for informing them. I was asked to be informer about militants and get promotion,” he added.
“They do tell other SPOs as well, to inform the forces about presence of militants and get promotion,” slain Basharat can be heard saying in video.
