Shopian: A former Special Police officer (SPO), who was among three persons abducted by suspected militants from Reben village of Shopian district Friday evening, has been killed. However, two others, both civilians, were released in late evening.
A local news agency quoted official sources as saying that the bullet-riddled body of the SPO was recovered from Nikloora area of Shopian.
The body has been recovered and taken to a local hospital for medico-legal formalities; it quoted a police officer as saying, adding that a case has been registered and further investigations taken up.
Reports said that suspected militants abducted former SPO Basharat Ahmad Wagay and two civilians, Riyaz Ahmad and Zahid, from Reben village at about 4:30 pm.
The family sources of the released civilians confirmed that they had reached home safely.
Last week, nine persons were abducted in Shopian district and two of them were killed by militants for allegedly tipping government forces about the presence of militants.
An encounter took place at Reban village last week in which two local militants were killed. Both militants were killed outside a residential house.\
