Spontaneous shutdown, clashes in Pulwama town against killing of local militant in Bijbehara gunfight

Srinagar: Clashes erupted in south Kashmir’s Pulwama town on Friday following the killing of local militant Firdous Ahmad of Muchpuna village in Bijbehara gunfight.

Witnesses told Kashmir Reader that soon after the news about the killing of Firdous Ahmad spread, all shops business establishments closed in the town while traffic went off the roads.

Local sources said that youth took to streets and clashed with the government forces deployed in Murran Chowk and near police station who retaliated using teargas shells to disperse protesters.

The clashes were going on when this report was being filed.
