Srinagar: In a significant development, State Administrative Council (SAC) on Thursday brought J&K Bank under the purview of Right to Information Act.
The SAC took the decision today during a meeting held by Governor Satya Pal Malik in Jammu.
An official spokesperson said the SAC approved bringing the J&K Bank under the ambit of RTI.
Until now, the Bank was not liable to provide information under the RTI, prompting A petitioned to file PIL in High Court.
In past, the Bank had refused to provide information about the institution claiming it was not coming under the purview of RTI.
Last month, the Governor’s remarks about the appointments in the Bank triggered a controversy in Jammu and Kashmir. He claimed selection list of 528 candidates in Jammu and Kashmir Bank (J&K) was changed to appoint political workers of the parties. Later, he denied it.
Meanwhile, the SAC also approved creation of 48 posts for Mission Directorate, Integrated Child Protection Scheme/Juvenile Justice Boards/Child Welfare Committees & Selection cum Oversight Committees.
