82.45% cast their votes in ‘re-poll’ in Nambla, Uri

Congress wins by 26 votes

BARAMULLA: 82.45 percent voters cast their votes in Nambla village of Uri on Thursday in Panchayat elections.
Official sources said that out 1,356 voters 1,118 including 574 male and 544 female registered voters cast their votes in favour of two candidates in Nambla village of Uri with voting percentage of 82.45.
They said that on Saturday, 17th of November elections were held in Uri including in Nambla village, however, when the counting of votes was underway, two groups whose favourite candidates participated in the elections clashed with each other, in which several people were injured while some people threw out the votes and also damaged the building of Government Higher Secondary School, Nambla.
After that the returning officer ordered re-polling in the area and elections were held afresh on Thursday in which 82.45% voters cast their votes.
The counting of votes was held in the Officers’ Club Uri in the evening. In Nambla, Ward B Uri, Shahid Shabir of Congress won the Sarpanch election by 26 votes defeating independent candidate, Raja Raheel.
