PAMPORE: Thousands of people on Wednesday took part in the Milad procession in saffron town Pampore to mark the celebrations of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW).
Thousands of people from different areas of Pampore gather at Khankah-e-Moula on Wednesday morning to celebrate the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Special prayers were also held in different mosques in the town.
Celebrated on the 12th day of Rabi-ul-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar, Milad commemorates the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
Led by various scholars and Imams, the procession started from Khankah-e-Moula Pampore and passed along Srinagar-Jammu highway, Namblabal, Drangbal, Kadlabal, Frestabal and others areas of Pampore town.
Hundreds of people joined the procession along the way at various points.
People and school children carried banners, flags and placards depicting praises to Prophet Mohammad (SAW).
“Huge crowd including children had gathered to witness the procession and some people came in decorated vehicles,” said an eyewitness.
Tehsildar Pampore, Younis Ahmad Bangroo along with other officials also participated in the rally which ended at Khankah-e-Moula Pampore.
Khawaja Masood Wali (RA) and Shugh Bab Sahab shrine and many other mosques were decorated and illuminated with florescent lights while special religious flags were hoisted atop some mosques, buildings and vehicles to mark the occasion.
The Islamia Auqaf Trust Pampore, which manages the affairs of the shrine, had made arrangements for the devotees.
Reports of celebrations were received from dozens of areas including Chandhara, Ladhoo, Khrew villages of Pampore and Barsoo Awantipora.
Milad processions were also taken out in the dozens areas of Pulwama and other places of the south Kashmir.
