High-voltage battle ends, Governor dissolves Jammu and Kashmir assembly

Srinagar: The JK Governor Satya Pal Malik on Wednesday dissolved the 87-member legislative assembly after high voltage drama about government formation erupted in Kashmir.

Both PDP and the Sajad Lone-led Peoples  Conference respectively staked their claims on the government formation on Wednesday evening.

After the PDP, Congress and National Conference combined together to form the government, Malik was called to New Delhi.

A source said the state would be going for fresh elections.

An order issued by Malik said  in exercise of the power has passed an order conferred upon him by clause (b) of sub-section (2) of section 53 of the constitution of Jammu and Kashmir dissolving the Legislative Assembly.

“By virtue of powers vested upon him in terms of proclamation number P-1/18 of 2018 dated 20th June 2018 issued under sub-section (1) of section 92 and in exercise of the powers conferred upon me by clause (b) of sub-section (2) iof section 53 of the constitution of Jammu and Kashmir, I hereby dissolve the Legislative assembly,” he said.
