Days after receiving threat calls, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat senior leader killed in south Kashmir’s Anantnag

Srinagar: Tehreek-e-Hurriyat district president and top activist Hafeezullah Mir was shot by unknown gunmen in southern Kashmir’s Anantnag.

Sources said that Mir was shot at in Achabal area of the district.

Reports said that unidentified gunmen barged inside the residence of Hafiz Ullah Mir at Budhra area of Achabal and fired upon him. Hafiz Ullah and his wife were injured and were taken to district hospital Anantnag.

However, Hafiz Ullah was declared brought dead on arrival at DH Anantnag.

Medical Superintendent district hospital Anantnag confirmed to Kashmir Reader that that Mir was brought dead.

Mir was released from jail last month after serving two-year detention under draconian Public Safety Act.

Pertinently, Mir had been receiving threat calls from unknown numbers for the last one month.

In a statment on Monday November 12, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat said that Mir had received threats from unknown callers.

TeH had demanded that the authorities should verify and locate the origin of these calls and make it public. He had warned that if anything ‘untoward’ happened to him, the government would be responsible for it.
