SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Semi Ring Road Land Owners Welfare Committee on Monday held a protest demonstration here at Press Enclave demanding rehabilitation and compensation of their land.
The farmers of various districts of Kashmir valley assembled at the enclave under the banner “Semi Ring Land Owners Welfare Committee” chanted slogans against the deputy commissioners of Srinagar, Budgam and Pulwama.
The protesters carried placards and banners reading: “Our Land is far better than UP and Bihar”, “Ring Road Destroying our Future”, and, “Don’t snatch our livelihood”.
The protesters demanded compensation from National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for their land four times extra than market rate.
“The NHAI is doing injustice to farmers and landowners of Jammu and Kashmir by paying less compensation to our lands,” said Gulzar Ahmad Rather, one of the farmers from Dharmun village of Budgam district.
“We want four times extra compensation than the market,” he said.
Nisar Ahmad, another farmer from Rameal Ghad area of Srinagar said “we are living in a municipality area; the government is paying us only 23 lakh to one kanal of land. The market rate of our land is 60 lakh. We have only 3 kanals of land in our family. We cultivate vegetables and sell the vegetables in the market”. “It is the only source of income in our family on which our whole family depends”, he maintained.
“We are demanding fare compensation. So, the future of our children will be safe,” Nisar added..
The alternative road link will connect Pampore highway with Manigam and Ganderbal district through Wathoora Chadoora, Budgam, Soibugh and Narbal.
