SRINAGAR: Police on Monday detained the chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Muhammad Yasin Malik, a party spokesperson said.
The spokesperson in a statement said police on Monday afternoon raided JKLF office and arrested Malik who has been shifted to police station Maisuma.
“According to police, he (Malik) has been arrested in connection with the ongoing Panchayat elections,” the spokesperson said.
Prior to his arrest, JKLF chairman while talking to mediapersons said, “Kashmir has been turned into a police state in the name of so-called democracy and everyone who raises his or her voice of dissent against tyranny is being arrested, tortured and tormented.”
He appealed people to boycott the ongoing Panchayat election “drama”, saying “elections under Indian hegemony are responsible for our prolonged occupation and miseries thus we should always stay away from this process”.
