Srinagar: Kashmir Reader reporter from Shopain Raashid Hassan was Saturday threatened after a report on appointment on Rehbar-e-Taleem teachers as Resource Persons in Shopian was carried by Kashmir Reader.
Raashid had talked to officials in education department and several teachers in the district for the report “12 ReTs posted Resource Persons in Shopian, seniors aghast” carried by the newspaper on Saturday.
Raashid received a call from an unknown number ( +919858213265), with the caller identifying himself as Ashiq Ahmad telling him that Chief Education Officer Shopian has called him to his office. Raashid told him that he was busy on assignment and cannot visit today.
Raashid received a call from the same number again at 6pm with caller resorting to abuse.
“I told him if he has any issue with the report then he can contact the newspaper office or the concerned department. He continued abusing and asked why I carried a story on ReT teachers. I tried hard to convince but he retorted, ‘you come out of your house and I will show you, I will cut you in pieces’” Raashid said.
An officer from Education department also has asked Raashid why he was doing stories “against Education department”.
Ashiq is, according to insiders in Education department’, an ReT teacher posted with the office of Chief Education Officer for more than three years while the condition of his parent school at Balpora is worsening day by day.
Sources said that he is “acting like clown of the officer and despite government orders has not been detached from his office”.
Chief Education Officer Shopian, Muhammad Sadiq, when contacted, told Raashid that he would talk to the teacher.
Asked how the teacher was posted in the office for more than three years despite being an ReT, Sadiq said “he is on deputation”.
Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Owais Ahmad said that he will take up the issue with Chief Education Officer Shopian and the said teacher.
