Baramulla: PDP senior leader Raja Ajaz Ali Khan on Saturday said that border town Uri has been neglected by all elected representatives in the past.
“The town, which is very close to line of control and most of the people are living below poverty line was neglected by all the elected representatives in past,” Khan said while talking to reporters outside a polling station in Uri.
He said that PDP is not participating directly in the Panchayat elections but most of the candidates are backed by the PDP in this border town.
“We hope that candidates backed by PDP will win maximum seats and will develop their villages and towns,” he said.
Khan, a retired police official, joined PDP a few years ago and also participated in the last assembly elections.
While taking a dig at National Conference, Khan said: “From the past assembly election, NC candidate has completely forgotten Uri constituency. He neither met people of the area nor developed the constituency on any front from past five years.”
He also blamed Congress for “dividing people on cast and tribal lines to secure their political interests”.
