Srinagar: At least two people were killed and nine others injured in an explosion near the Quaidabad Bridge in Karachi on Friday night, Samaa TV reported.
The injured were shifted to Jinnah hospital, Malir SSP Irfan Bahadur told Samaa News.
Two of the wounded persons succumbed to their injuries, confirmed JPMC Executive Director Dr Seemin Jamali. The deceased couldn’t be identified.
“Two other injured are in critical condition,” she said.
An explosive device was planted under a fruit seller’s cart, CTD and BDS officials told SAMAA TV. According to the BDS, it was a timed explosion. A second bomb found in a food container near the site of the explosion was disarmed.
“It was a powerful explosion,” an eyewitness said. “Power supply to the surrounding areas was disrupted after the explosion.”
The police and Rangers collected evidence from the crime scene and closed the surrounding area for traffic.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Governor Imran Ismail took notice of the explosion and summoned reports from the IGP and Karachi’s AIG.
