SRINAGAR: The joint resistance leadership (JRL) on Friday held a protest demonstration at several places in Srinagar against the “human rights violations” in Kashmir Valley.
Witnesses said that scores of pro-freedom activists assembled at Maisuma and Koker Bazar in city centre Lal Chowk and held a protest demonstration demanding end to “human rights violations” in Kashmir. They also reiterated support for election boycott called by JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik.
At Maisuma, the demonstration was led by JKLF leader Showkat Bakhshi and Sheikh Abdul Rashid.
“People are suffering due to nocturnal raids. The students studying in other Indian states are being arrested,” Bakhshi said.
He also condemned the charge-sheet filed by NIA against Dukhtaran-e-Millat chairperson Aasiya Andrabi and her close associates Sofi Fehmeeda and Nahida Nasreen.
At Koker Bazar, JKLF leaders Noor Muhammad Kalwal and Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri led the protest rally.
At Hyderpora, the leaders and activists of Syed Ali Geelani-led Hurriyat Conference held a protest demonstration after congregational Friday prayers condemning the NIA charge-sheet against incarcerated chairperson of Dukhtran-e-Millat Syeda Aasiya Andrabi and her two associates, and yet another detention under PSA of Masarat Aalam Bhat.
The leaders appealed United Nations Human Rights Commission and other world human rights organisations to “take a serious note of the gross violations of human rights in Jammu and Kashmir”.
The leaders and activists of Muslim League Jammu and Kashmir also staged peaceful protest at Hyderpora and Anchaar, Soura against slapping of 37th PSA on its incarcerated chairman Masarat Alam Bhat, a party statement said.
It said the protests were led by League’s acting chairman Abdul Ahad Parra and general secretary M Rafiq Ganaie.
They termed the PSA on Alam as “the worst demonstration of political vendetta”.
