PAMPORE: A complete shutdown was observed in Khanmoh on Thursday against the arrest of two brothers who were picked up from their homes by police after their sister was held carrying grenades and ammunition in a car on Srinagar outskirts.
Asiya, their sister, was held along with 20 grenades when the car she was travelling in was intercepted at a check post in Lawaypora on Srinagar outskirts.
Local sources told Kashmir Reader that hundreds of people held a protest demonstration against the arrest of her brothers. The protesters blocked the Srinagar-Khrew road at Khanmoh and stopped traffic movement on the busy industrial area road for some time, demanding the immediate release of both the brothers.
Later, the protesters including women assembled at Khanmoh Chowk and marched towards SIDCO industrial area raising slogans, “Hilal Aur Iqbal Ko Riha Karo”.
Locals said that shops and business establishments were closed and transport was off the roads in Khanmoh throughout the day.
The two brothers, Hilal Ahmad Ganaie and Mohammad Iqbal Ganaie, were arrested on Tuesday night from their homes in Khanmoh. A police officer told Kashmir Reader that the two brothers were being questioned.
Asiya and her brothers are the children of slain Hizbul Mujahideen militant Muhammad Ramzan Ganai alias Akhtar, who was killed by government forces at Saida Kadal in Srinagar in 1992.
