SHO Sonamarg, police team make narrow escape at Zojila Pass during snow avalanche

GANDERBAL: Station House Officer (SHO) Sonamarg, his team and some traffic police persons had a narrow escape after an avalanche roared down a mountain at Zojila Pass area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Wednesday evening.
Officials said that the incident happened at Zojila Pass when a police party from Police Station Sonamarg headed by Station House Officer, Manzoor Ahmad Mir and some traffic police persons visited the pass to check if any stranded vehicles or passenger were stuck in the avalanche-prone area of Zojila Pass on Srinagar-Leh highway.
While the party was returning from Zero point Zojila, it had a narrow escape as many snow avalanches hit the area.
The police team left their vehicle on the Zojila Pass and returned to Sonamarg Police Station on foot after walking more than 10 kms during heavy snowfall.
However officials said no injuries have been reported in this incident.
