SHRC seeks report on ‘torture’ of Ganderbal cousins

Srinagar: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) Tuesday issued a notice to Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ganderbal asking them to file a report about alleged torture of two persons at Warapahow, Ganderbal by army on November 6.
The notice was issued in response of the petition filed by rights activist Muhammad Ahsan Untoo.
As per the petition, Shabir Ahmed Raina and his cousin Rouf Ahmed Raina were were bundled up in army vehicle and beaten to pulp and “asked to drink kerosene oil and cold water while as forces sat on their thighs making them cry louder”.
The petitioner said while as Shabir was released and continues to be in a critical condition his cousin Rouf is still under custody for no fault. The petitioner rued that charges against Rouf have not been made clear yet.
The petition demanded that FIR be lodged and thorough probe be conducted into the incident.
“Every day an innocent Kashmiri is suffering at the hands of security forces by torture or usual harassment. This needs an end otherwise situation will deteriorate with each passing day.”
