Srinagar: Students from central university of Kashmir on Monday held a protest demonstration here in Srinagar demanding release of their classmate.
However one of the students, Mohammad Ismail Ganie has been released by the police on Sunday.
The students identified as Suhail Ahmad Ahmad Dar of Shopian and Mohammad Ismail Ganie of Baramulla, both 3rd semester students of Political Science department were picked up by police last week from their rented room in Nowgam Srinagar outskirts.
Scores of Students from central university of Kashmir assembled here in press enclave and chanted slogans.
Adil Farooq , one of the protesting student from Central University of Kashmir said their two classmates have been detained by the police from their rented accommodation at Nowgam before few days ago.
“Both the students are innocent; they were attending their classes regularly in the university campus. The charges against them are totally baseless,” he said.
He added that they (arrested students) attended their last class on Friday in the university campus.
The protesting students appealed the Governor Satya Pal Malik to intervene so that Dar is freed and allowed to resume his studies.
Meanwhile, the Administration of central university of Kashmir suspended class work today due to the fear of protests, PRO CUK, Arshid Mehraj confirmed to Kashmir reader.
