SRINAGAR: Fruit growers from south Kashmir on Saturday held a protest demonstration here demanding Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loan waiver and implementation of crop insurance scheme in the valley.
Scores of fruit growers from south Kashmir under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir Kissan Tehreek assembled here at Pratap Park and demanded compensation for the loss caused due to unseasonal snowfall.
Kissan Tehreek general secretary Ghulam Nabi Malik said the state government has failed to implement the crop insurance schemes in valley while it was successfully implemented in the Jammu.
“We demand implementation of crop insurance scheme and waiver of KCC loans to small farmers and fruit growers whose harvest was damaged by snowfall,” Malik said.
A protester, Bashir Ahmad Bhat, from Kulgam said, “Our apple trees have been damaged due to snowfall. We demand compensation from government.”
