BARAMULLA: Authorities on Saturday declared the result of recently held municipal elections in north Kashmir’s Baramulla town in which Congress party candidate Umar Kakroo has been declared as president of Municipal Council Baramulla.
The elections for president and vice president were held on Saturday at Shirwani Hall Baramulla in which 19 votes were cast. Congress topped with 11 votes while Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) bagged only 8 votes.
With this win Congress party’s Umar Azhar Kakroo will be the president of Municipal Council Baramulla while Abid Salaam War has been declared as vice president. Abid was a freelance journalist and participated in the elections as an independent candidate.
Overall, Congress won 10 seats and BJP 6 while 3 seats were won by independent candidates. Later, one among the independents joined Congress party.
