Only stranded vehicles allowed to ply from Kargil to Sonamarg

Sonamarg: The Srinagar-Leh highway connecting Ladakh region with the Kashmir valley reopened after remaining closed for eight days due to heavy snowfall last week.
However, the road was partially restored and only stranded vehicles were allowed to move from Kargil towards Srinagar, an official told Kashmir Reader Friday morning.
He said stranded vehicles in different areas of Drass, Meenmarg, Kargil and Leh, mostly carrying passengers, tourists and Srinagar bound empty trucks were allowed to move towards Sonamarg on Friday morning and asked to reach Zojila pass after 10am.
SSP Traffic Rural, Muzaffar Ahmad, told Kashmir Reader that subject to weather conditions, and if all stranded vehicles from Kargil side pass through on Friday, traffic would be allowed to move from Sonamarg to Kargil on Saturday.
Traffic on the highway was closed on Thursday last week due to heavy accumulation of snow on Zojila pass, officials said.
