Pulwama: The killing of two local Hizbul Mujahideen militants triggered off massive protests in this south Kashmir district prompting the district authorities to snap mobile internet services across the district.

Scores of people hit the streets in Main Town here when news spread this morning about the killing of two local militants in an encounter, witnesses told Kashmir Reader. Angry youth threw rocks at the government forces to vent their anger against the killings.

This led to the outbreak of fierce clashes in the area.

Meanwhile, a spontaneous shutdown was observed in the Main Town and other parts of the district to mourn the killing of the two militants. All shops and business establishments in most parts of the districts are closed, witnesses told Kashmir Reader.

Class work at government degree college have also been suspended today as a ‘precautionary measure’.

The authorities have also snapped 2G, 3G and 4G mobile internet service in the district amid fears of escalation in the protests.

Police sources told Kashmir Reader that the bodies of the two slain militants have been handed over to their families for final rites.
