Srinagar: Two militants were killed in a brief gun-battle with government forces in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, police said today.
In the wee hours today, special operations group (SOG) of police, army’s 55 RR and paramilitary CRPF laid a siege around Tikken village of Pulwama and started a cordon and search operation on the basis of inputs suggesting presence of militants in the village, a police spokesman told Kashmir Reader.
When the joint team started advances, militants hiding in the village opened fire upon them in a bid to escape from their dragnet.
“The fire was returned leading to an encounter. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, two militants were killed,” the police spokesman said.
