Chattabal fire victims protest, seek financial assistance

SRINAGAR: The fire victims from Chattabal Veer locality of the city on Thursday staged a demonstration here in Srinagar seeking financial help from the government on compassionate grounds.
The residents, whose houses were burnt in an inferno on 26th October last month, assembled here in Press enclave and staged a protest. The protesters shouting slogans “we want justice” and were demanding financial assistance from the government to rebuild their houses.
The protesters said that they are facing lot of problems after their houses got damaged in the fire incident.
“Five of our families were living in a single house that got fully damaged due to the fire. The fire left us homeless. We are living in Private marriage Hall which is under construction”, Ghulam Hassan Sheikh, one of the protester said.
Sheikh said that 13 families were affected in the blaze that left 8 houses, four among them fully damaged.
Abdul Majeed, another protester from veer chattabal said all their belongings were consumed by the fire.
“We are left with nothing except the clothes we are wearing,” he said, adding “We appeal authorities to help us to rebuilt our damaged houses,”
The protesting fire victims applied the governor Satya Pal Malik to help them so they can rebuild their houses again.
