‘Weavers should adopt new technology, develop new designs’

UDHAMPUR: Sub-divisional Magistrate (SDM), Chenani, Ashwani Kumar on Monday stressed that the weavers should adopt new technology and develop new designs by replacing the old type of pit looms to modern fly shuttle looms so that the quality of products and their earning were improved. He emphasised that the weavers should come forward to avail the benefits of the schemes of the department.
Kumar was speaking during a one-day publicity-cum-awareness camp organised by Handloom Development Department here at village Kardian, Chenani. The camp was organised to sensitise weavers/artisans about the developmental and welfare schemes run by the department for their socio-economic upliftment.
Assistant Director Handloom Development Department, Saidullah Khanji highlighted various social security schemes launched by the government of India for the welfare of the general public such as Pradhan Mantri Weavers Mudra schemes, Micro Credit plan scheme, Jeevan Jyoti Bima, Bunker Yojana, education, formation of co-operative societies and setting up of block level handloom clusters, the handout read.
On the occasion, a number of artisans applied for loans on the spot while as, a group of weavers were proposed to be covered under co-operative fold by registering a handloom co-operative society in the area, for which they were asked to complete the formalities it added.
