SRINAGAR: National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah visited the shrine of Hazrat Sheikh Hamza Makhdoom (RA) to pay obeisance on the annual Urs.

A party statement issued here said that Farooq prayed for everlasting peace and harmony in the state. “People of Jammu and Kashmir have always benefited from the teachings of Awliya who educated the masses here with Qur’an, Tazkiyatul Nafas and other virtues,” he said.

NC president said that Kashmir is known for being the cradle of sages and saints in every age. “More than four centuries have passed down the line of history yet people come and receive spiritual bliss at these centres. Sufism is the inner soul of Islam and Sufis took it upon themselves to embalm the poor and miserable keeping in with the traditions of Islam,” he said.

Farooq said the need of the hour is to inculcate and educate new generation about the life and history of such Awliya. “The message of such great souls is for all ages to imbibe. I greet people on the Urs observance and pray to almighty to salvage us out from the current turbulent times,” he said.

He was accompanied by party general secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar and party activists.

Meanwhile, Farooq Abdullah and NC vice president Omar Abdullah have expressed grief over the demise of party leader and Ex MLC Muhammad Aslam Banday of Uri.

Offering condolences with the bereaved family Farooq said, “The party stands in unison with the grief-stricken family. Banday sahib was a selfless person, who had empathy for the downtrodden people. I pray to Almighty to give peace to the departed soul and strength to his family members to bear the loss.”

Omar Abdullah while expressing his heartfelt condolences to the family of Mohammad Aslam Banday said, “Banday sahib belonged to the tribe of those selfless persons who worked tirelessly for socio-political emancipation of the poor. He voiced for voiceless all his life. I pray to almighty to give peace to the departed soul.”

Senior party leader and MLA Muhammad Shafi Uri said that Banday’s demise is a personal loss to him. “He was a lifelong colleague of mine. His death is indeed a personal setback for me,” he said and prayed for peace to the departed soul.

Meanwhile senior party functionaries including Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar, Sheikh Mustafa kamal, Nasir Aslam Wani, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Javed Dar, Ghulam Hassan Rahi and Sajad Uri also paid glowing tributes to the departed soul.
