MLA Shopian for assessment of losses to fruit growers

SRINAGAR: MLA Shopian Advocate Mohammad Yousuf Bhat has impressed upon the administration to assess the losses caused to apple trees due to heavy snow.
The incessant snowfall has damaged most of the apple orchards here in Shopian and has left orchardists of this apple district in distress, Bhat said in a statement.
He said the people of Shopian are mostly dependent on apple orchards and the unexpected and heavier snowfall snow damaged tree branches making the people of this apple district suffer huge losses.
While interacting with various delegations of fruit growers, MLA was informed that the orchardist community have suffered extensive damage and in such situation those suffered look forward for the government support.
He upon the governor administration to constitute a team of horticulture, agriculture and revenue department, who would visit the affected areas to assess the losses caused to the fruits so that the relief and compensation could be worked out for the affected orchardists.
MLA Shopian further impressed upon the government to waive off the KCC loan of the apple growers who have always been suffering on account of weather vagaries, in order to mitigate sufferings of the fruit growers in Kashmir.
“It becomes an obligation for the government to come to the support and succour of the orchardists as they form the backbone of the state’s economy,” he added.
