Power restored partially, south Kashmir reels under darkness

Srinagar: After facing 24-hour outage due to power breakdown caused by snow in Kashmir, electricity was restored in major parts of Kashmir. 

However, almost entire three districts of south Kashmir continue to reel under darkness. 

Hospital and essential services are also hit due to the breakdown in the three districts. The healthcare facilities are using gensets. Lack of electricity has also affected water supply in several areas triggering a sort of crisis.

A power department official said transmission have sustained massive damages and it might take one more day to restore electricity there.

In Srinagar and north Kashmir, electricity was restored in almost all areas in the late afternoon. Several areas especially in the city outskirts are still reeling under darkness and are expected to get electricity late night. Similarly, some areas in north are still facing outage.

A power department official said that areas which are yet to receive electricity will get by evening and the work is on. He said major transmission lines which suffered damages have been repaired. 

Deputy commissioner Srinagar Syed Abid Rasheed Shah said that Srinagar is feeding 300 MW against 380MW and areas which are facing outage is due to electric transformer damages or wire damages. 

“We will do whatever is humanly possible & beyond to restore 100 % and as soon as possible,” he tweeted
