Srinagar-Leh highway remains closed for 3rd consecutive day

Sonamarg: The Strategic 434-km Srinagar-Leh highway remained closed for the third consecutive day on Saturday, due to heavy snowfall at Zojilla pass.

An official said that snowfall which witnessed during the past 24 hours in Zojila and Sonamarg areas continued till Saturday morning, resulting into heavy accumulation of snow on the highway, forcing suspension of traffic movement.

Officials said along the highway, Sonamarg recorded 1.5 feet of snow, and at Zojila 3.5 feet snow has accumulated.

Reports said that a large number of vehicles, including those carrying passengers, are stranded on both sides of the Zojila pass.

The highway was closed for traffic on Thursday following the snowfall and slippery road condition at Zojila Pass, Zero Point, Menimarg, Drass, and no vehicle is being allowed to ply from both sides of the highway keeping in view the safety and security of the commuters, officials said.
