Shopian: The family of a mentally unsound man shot dead by army in this south Kashmir district, staged a today alleging the man has been killed in custody by the soldiers.

Witnesses told Kashmir Reader that the family members of Rayees Ahmad Wani, son of Abdul Hameed of Begam Kulgam staged a protest at the Batpora along the Shopian-Srinagar road this morning when police handed the body of slain man to them. Chanting slogans “We want justice,” the protesters alleged that Wani has been caught and killed by soldiers in custody.

“Rayees went missing after leaving his home on Friday evening. We reported to police and made announcements of his disappearance on social media as well. We doubt if he tried to sneak into the camp as claimed by army,” Javed Ahmad, a protester said.
