Rains, snow expected in next 36 hours: Met
Sonamarg: The 434-km long Srinagar-Leh highway was closed for traffic on Thursday following a fresh snowfall in upper reaches of Ganderbal district.
An official said that higher reaches of the district, including Zojila pass on Srinagar-Leh highway received fresh spell of fresh snowfall on Thursday afternoon.
He said a couple of inches of snow had accumulated on the highway at Zojilla Pass and if there was no further snowfall the highway would be thrown open to traffic again.
Meanwhile, Directory Meteorological department Sonam Lotus said that fresh snowfall has started at Zojjila, Menamarag and Drass. He added that light to moderate rains in plains and snowfall in higher reaches of Kashmir and parts of Jammu division is predicted in next 36 hours, which can impact traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu highway as well as the alternate Mughal Road.
