Budgam: The killing of two unknown militants by government forces on Wednesday set off violent protests in Arizal area of this central Kashmir district.

Scores of people hit the streets in Harde Panzu and Arizal villages here and staged protests when news spread this morning that government forces have killed two unknown militants in an encounter in Zagoo village, witnesses told Kashmir Reader.

Angry protesters hurled rocks at the government forces to vent their anger against the militant killings.

“The government forces burst tear gas shells and fired warning shots to disperse the protesters. However, the protesters regrouped and continued stone pelting attack on the forces. The situation is very tense in the area,” witnesses said.

The clashes between government forces and protesters were going on when this report was filed.
