Illicit timber seized in Budgam

SRINAGAR: A team of forest officials of Doodganga Range sized illicit timber on the intervening night of October 30 and 31 in Budgam area, officials said.
“The party immediately tried to apprehend the smugglers who however assaulted the forest personnel with sharp-edged weapons in which one forest official got injured. The party was able to seize one horse and illicit timber of 11.93 cfts. Reportedly, the timber has been smuggled from bordering forests of Shopian Forest Division,” the statement said.
The smugglers managed to escape from the spot along with one horse taking advantage of darkness, it reads. Illicit timber and seized horse has been brought down to OB post-Budgam.
The identification of involved culprits is under investigation.
