Budgam: Two militants on Wednesday were killed by government forces in an encounter in this central Kashmir district.
In the wee hours today, army and special operations group (SOG) of police laid a siege around Zagoo village of the district and launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) on the basis of credible information about the presence of militants in the village, a police spokesperson told Kashmir Reader.
When the search team zeroed in a building, the militants hiding there opened random fire upon the forces in a bid to break the cordon.
“The government forces returned the fire triggering off a fierce encounter. In the exchange of gunfire, two militants have been killed,” police spokesperson said.
He said bodies of the two militants have been recovered from the encounter site.
One of the militants have been identified as Mukhtiyar Ahmad Khan of Brass, KhanSahab.
“Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. Police has registered a case and initiated investigation in the instant matter,” the police spokesman said.
The police spokesman urged residents not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials.
“People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosives materials if any,” the spokesman added.
