Tral gunfight: 2 militant bodies recovered from debris

Anantnag: Two bodies of militants and a rifle have been recovered from the site of an encounter at Chankitar village of Tral that began Tuesday afternoon and lasted more than four hours.
Police officials confirmed the recovery of two bodies and said they were looking for the body of a third militant at the site.
They said that the bodies are charred and are yet to be recognised.
The militants are believed to be of the Jaish-e-Muhammad They were holed up inside a residential house in Chankitar village of and all three are presumed dead after troops blasted the house.
In the evening the gunfight stopped after government forces set ablaze the house.
The forces, according to sources, also called in more reinforcements to the encounter site and the whole village was put under cordon.
Earlier, militants and the government forces had been exchanging fire for over four hours till evening.
The gunfight began 16 hours after an attack carried out by militants on an army camp in Mandoora area of Tral, less than a kilometer away from the site of the gunfight.
A senior police official told Kashmir Reader, “Today at about noon, a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched in the area following inputs regarding presence of militants there.”
He said that the house where the militants were hiding was identified and the militants were asked to come out. The militants, however, chose to fight and opened fire at the government forces.
“The fire was retaliated and the gunfight ensued,” he said.
Intense clashes took place around the site of the encounter as well as in main town Tral. The forces fired pellets and tear smoke shells to disperse the stone-pelting youth.
One of the protestors sustained injuries during the clashes in main town Tral. He was treated locally and is stated to be stable.
Meanwhile, a video circulated on social media claimed one of the slain militants as Usman Hiader of JeM outfit.
