Pulwama: Thousands of people on Wednesday participated in the funeral of a local Jaish-e-Muhammad militant who was killed along with the nephew of outfit’s chief Maulana Masood Azhar in a gun-battle in Tral area of this south Kashmir district.
Since early morning, hundreds of people thronged the house of Showkat Ahmad Khan at Handoora Tral, whose charred body was recovered from the encounter site in Chankitar village of Tral on Tuesday evening, witnesses told Kashmir Reader.
The crowd of mourners swelled in numbers as more and more people from Lurav, Lurgam, Wagad and other adjoining villages reached Handoora to participate in the funeral of the slain militant, witnesses said.
“Three round of funeral prayers were offered for the slain militant as more and more people joined in,” witnesses said.
They said a group of militants also appeared in the funeral and fired shots in air to pay homage to the slain militant.
Khan’s body was being carried in a procession to the martyrs graveyard for burial when this report was filed.
Meanwhile, a complete shutdown is being observed in Tral Township against the killing of Jaish militants. All shops and business establishments in the town are shut to mourn the killings, witnesses added.
