HANDWARA: The people of Sopernaghama in Handwara area of north Kashmir staged a protest against the department of public health engineering (PHE) on Tuesday morning against the shortage of portable drinking water in the area.
Reports said that a large number of people mostly women and children of Sopernaghama Handwara took to streets Tuesday morning and blocked the Baramulla Handwara road and staged protes.
Protesters alleged that their area is without drinking water from two months and people are forced to take unsafe drinking water from nearby streams.
Later station house officer SHO Kralgund Javid Ahmad Sheikh along with a police team reached the spot and assured protesters to bring their grievance into the notice of higher authorities of concern department for redressal of the grievance.
After his assurance protesters dispersed off peacefully.
