Shopian: Suspected militants on Sunday afternoon attacked an army patrol in Poterwal area, some six kilometers from district headquarters Shopian, but there was no injury or loss of life in the attack.
A police officer said that militants fired at the army patrol but the attack was repulsed by the army troops, after which the militants escaped.
Locals said that the area was cordoned off by government forces after the attack and searches conducted to nab the assailants, but no trace of the militants was found.
Today’s attack was the fourth on government forces in Shopian district since Friday. Militants had attacked an army camp at Mantribug on Friday noon and then in the evening they attacked the official residence of the Additional Superintendent of Police at Gagren. In both these attacks, there was no loss of life or injury on either side.
On Saturday night, militants attacked the Shopian district police lines at Batpora area of the town.
