Baramulla: A complete shutdown continued in Baramulla town for the third consecutive day on Sunday in protest against the killing of local militant Aqil Rashid Sofi of Khanpora.
All shops and business centres in the town remained closed throughout the day, though traffic was plying on the roads.
Teams of police and paramilitary CRPF were deployed in the town and in Khanpora to stand guard. There was no report of any clashes with government forces during the day..
In Khanpora, some people were seen distributing sweet water to pedestrians and passengers on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad national highway.
The 20-year-old Aqil Rashid Sofi was killed by government forces in a gunfight in Kreeri area of Baramulla district on Friday. Another militant from Sopore town died fighting alongside Sofi.
