Govt puts first-ever drug de-addiction policy draft for public feedback

Srinagar: The government is seeking suggestion on the draft on first-ever drug de-addiction policy.
The 31-page draft document has been framed by the Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences (IMHANS) of the Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar in collaboration with the department of Psychiatry, SKIMS, and the J&K State AIDS Control Society.
It includes measures to be taken to curb the menace of drug abuse. The draft also claimed that substance abuse has increased many folds in J&K
The document has been uploaded on the website of health and medical education department.
A notification has also been issued by the department seeking comments and suggestions from academics, civil society organisations, government departments and general public for making suitable improvements if needed.
“The policy will be available for review, comments and critique of stakeholders for 30 days,” officials said adding that the draft will be modified as per the suggestions and feedback before finalising putting it for implementation.
