Baramulla: Thousands of people on Friday participated in the funeral of a Lashkar-e-Toiba militant killed with his associate in Kreeri area of this north Kashmir district on Thursday.

Hundreds of people assembled in Khanpora locality of the town when the body of Lashkar militant Akeel Rashid Sofi reached his home early this morning, witnesses told Kashmir Reader. Scores of youth, they said staged a pro-freedom demonstration and clashed with the government forces.

“The pitched battles continued for sometime before the government forces withdrew from the area,” witnesses said.

Meanwhile, thousands of people attended funeral prayers of the slain youth near the shrine of Hazrat Janbazwali at Khanpora. The slain militant was later buried at martyrs’ graveyard Khanpora.

Meanwhile, government forces have imposed curbs in Khanpora along the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad highway in a bid to prevent people from visiting the house of slain militant, eyewitnesses said.
