Gunfight breaks out in north Kashmir’s Sopore

Srinagar: A fierce gun-battle broke out between militants and government forces in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday morning.

In the wee hours today, army and special operations group (SOG) of police cordoned off Behrampora village of Sopore and started a cordon and search operation (CASO) witnesses told Kashmir Reader.

When the search team started advances, the militants hiding in a residential house opened fire upon the government forces, they said.

The government forces returned the fire triggering off a fierce gunfight. The exchange of gunfire was going on when the last reports came in.
