SHOPIAN: Government forces arrested nine youth from Darshalnoo (Gund-Darvesh) village of the district in a nocturnal raid on Wednesday. The arrested include a class 12th student whose exams are underway.
Villagers from Darshalnoo told Kashmir Reader that forces cordoned a cluster of residential houses and ‘ordered’ residents to come out.
“They identified nine persons from the list and arrested them,” a local resident said.
They said that the arrests were made around 2am when whole of the village was in deep sleep.
A local resident said that among the arrested persons, Zefan Fayaz is scheduled to sit for board exams on Friday.
Family members identified the detained persons as Nawaz Ahmad Dar, Shabir Ahmad Sheikh, Jahangir Ahmad Mir, Bilal Ahmad Dar, Showkat Ahmad Dar, Asif Ahmad Paul, Zefan Fayaz and Muzamil Ahmad Sheikh; all residents of Darshalnoo village.
Villagers said that all the persons arrested by forces are innocent.
A police officer confirmed the arrests and said they were arrested in connection with “stone pelting” and “questioning”.
